Christine La Verne Wolfe
Oct. 2, 1944 - June 13, 2008
A memorial service will be held for Christine La Verne Wolfe, 63, of Reedsport at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, at the Assembly of God Church, 509 N. 19th St. in Reedsport.
Christine was born Oct. 2, 1944, in Astoria, to Norman and La Verne (Guisinger) Miller. She died June 13, 2008, in Eugene, of pulmonary fibrosis.
She grew up in the Rainier area, attending Delena Elementary School and graduating from Rainier High School in 1962.
She met the love of her life, James Leroy Wolfe, and on June 6, 1964 they were married. They had two sons and a daughter.
Christine began teaching small children in Sunday school at the age of 15 and for many years afterward, she and her husband, Jim, were workers in Children’s Church Ministries. She loved little children and was a loving child care giver in her home in Reedsport for many years.
Christine and Jim loved traveling, taking their family and many times another child to many places of interest throughout the United States. After retirement, they loved traveling in their motor home to Arizona for the winter and camping out on the Rogue or Umpqua rivers with their grandchildren during the summer.
Christine is survived by her husband, Jim Wolfe; son, Kevin and wife, Sheryl; son, Bryan and friend, Sally King of Springfield; daughter, Valerie and husband, Jeremy Richards of Coos Bay; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Zackery Wolfe of Vancouver, Wash., Brittany and Allen Larkin of Coos Bay, Ryan and James Wolfe of Coquille and Morgann Cobb and Andrew and Tyler Richards of Coos Bay; her parents, Norman and La Verne Miller of Reedsport; sisters, Ruthie Hainey of Portland, and Cheryl Rittierodt of Fort Mohave, Ariz.; brother, Ron Miller of North Bend; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a great host of friends.
She will be missed greatly by her family and friends, but her love an memory will always be there with them.
Robert “Texaco Bob” Carter Larsen III
March 30, 1966 – June 16, 2008
A memorial service was held for Robert “Texaco Bob” Carter Larsen III, 42, of Reedsport, on Friday, June 20, at the Moose Lodge.
Texaco Bob was born on March 30, 1966, in Seattle, Wash. He died June 16, 2008, in Reedsport.
He was raised in Barstow, Calif., and Reedsport by his parents, Jerry Chartier and Carol Charlene (Chartier) Larsen. He also lived in Gardiner. He was employed at various jobs, most notoriously at Texaco, where he earned his nickname.
He enjoyed music, animals, outdoors and his friends. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his beloved dog, Cally; his sisters, Michelle Gillispie and her husband, Mokey Gillispie and Molly Hayes; his brother, Jerry Chartier Jr.; his father, Jerry Chartier; close family friends, Marti Rosenstiel and family and many others; and his nieces and nephews, Jordon Phillips, Sarah Gillispie, Scott Provart, Sierra Provart and Dylan Gillispie.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Chartier; and Larry Rosenstiel.
The family suggests memorial contributions for the family c/o Dunes Memorial Chapel, 2300 Frontage Road, Reedsport, OR 97467.

John C. Waggoner
Dec. 25, 1918 – June 13, 2008
A memorial service for John Claude Waggoner, 89, of Reedsport, was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, at United Presbyterian Church, 2360 Longwood Drive, Reedsport. Private burial will be held at Reedsport Masonic Cemetery.
John was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Empire, to Warren W. and Hazel M. (Hudson) Waggoner. He died June 13, 2008, in Reedsport.
He was raised in Reedsport and Scottsburg, attending eight years of grade school in Scottsburg and graduating from Reedsport High School in 1937. He married Irene D. Rowe on Oct. 22, 1940, in Coquille. They lived in Reedsport, where he was a logger for 20 years and a heavy equipment operator for Umpqua River Navigation Company for 30 years. He enjoyed cattle ranching, hunting, fishing, reloading ammunition, wood working and gardening. He belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers, Locals 701 and 302 for 59 years. He belonged to the Reedsport Christian Church and was a life member of the International Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodges.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Karin Waggoner of Reedsport, son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Willma Waggoner of Baker City, and son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Phyllis Waggoner of Reedsport; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene D. Waggoner; father, Warren W. Waggoner; mother, Hazel M. Waggoner; sister, Marjorie M. Peterson; and sister, Merle F. Orem.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Grove Children’s Christian Camp or the Arthritis Foundation, in care of the Grand Lodge IOOF, c/o IOOF Gardiner Lodge No. 132, 1745 Greenwood Ave., Reedsport, OR 97467.

David William Bird
Aug. 10, 1936 – June 11, 2008
Memorial services were held for David William Bird, 71, of Scottsburg on June 23.
David was born Aug. 10, 1936, in Bellevue, Wash. He died June 11, 2008, at home in Scottsburg.
He graduated from Bellevue High School, then attended Whitman College in Washington on a football scholarship. He was an entrepreneur and 50 percent owner of Staffing for Success in Medford. Prior to that, he’d owned an operated a janitorial supply business, as well as being a corporate officer in the industrial field.
David is survived by his wife, Dellamae; his partner in business as well as in life, his son, Philip of Lake Oswego; daughters, Jennifer Souther of Bend and Laura Clutinger of Valley Center, Calif.; stepchildren, Marshall Henkle of Federal Way, Wash., and Deanna Henkle of Creswell; sister, Sheila Ralston of Kirkland, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

L. Jeanne Smalley
Oct. 13, 1924 – June 16, 2008
At her request, no services will be held for L. Jeanne Smalley, 83, of Reedsport.
Jeanne was born Oct. 13, 1924, in Harvey, Ill. She died June 16, 2008, with her family by her side.
Most recently, Jeanne was active with the senior companions program for more than 20 years. She also was active with the Farmer’s Market and the Wellness Team and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Jeanne’s hobbies included crocheting, ceramics and collecting souvenir spoons.
She is survived by her son, Fred Smalley of Reedsport; her daughter, Denise Paniptchuk; her grandchildren, Joshua Calbick and wife, Mandi of Grande Ronde, Trina Owen and great-grandsons, Juztyn and Kyle of Phoenix, Ariz., Jamie Antinucci and husband, Adam and great-granddaughter, Dani of Grants Pass; Fred Smalley and great-granddaughter, Dayauna of White City, Roland Smalley of Gold Hill and Zane Paniptchuck and two great-grandsons of Unalakeet, Alaska; two brothers, Bill and Jack Pepin; and many nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Smalley; a grandson, Stanton Oniciem “Oni” Paniptchuck; and several siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the United Presbyterian Church, 2360 Longwood Dr., Reedsport, OR 97467; or the American Diabetes Association, ATTN: National Call Center, 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311.
