Permits necessary to burn

The Reedsport Volunteer Fire Department’s burn permit officer continues to monitor all burning within the city limits to ensure that all burning is done on authorized burn days, to meet both state and federal guidelines and to control smoke intrusion.

All burning within the city limits requires a written burn permit throughout the year. Permits can be obtained by calling City Hall at 271-3603, Monday through Friday during normal working hours. City staff will ask for your name and phone number. Someone from the fire department will contact you within 24 hours. For those who want to burn on the weekends, call City Hall on Friday.

The burn permit officer will set up an appointment time to look at what the resident plans on burning and then issue a permit. Permitted burning includes burn barrels and debris burns (piles of scrap wood or woody material).

There is no charge for this service.

Campfires, fire pits or commercially purchased containers for cooking or other non debris burning activities do not require a permit.

Do not leave the fire unattended, put it out completely when finished and carefully watch the direction of the smoke coming from the fire.

For more information call City Hall and ask for the burn permit officer or visit www.reedsportfd.com.
