| Kayak races featured at Ocean Fest
The Gardiner-Reedsport Lions Club and the Reedsport-Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring the annual Ocean Fest Kayak Race on the Umpqua River on July 19. It will be part of Ocean Fest.
There will be a 12-mile marathon race from the Discovery Center in Reedsport to Winchester Bay for wind kayaks, single pedal and paddle kayaks and for tandem pedal and paddle kayaks.
There also will be six 4-mile short course races beginning in Winchester Bay, circling a buoy in the Umpqua River and returning to Winchester Bay. These races will be for single pedal and paddle kayaks and for tandem pedal and paddle kayaks.
All entries will receive a free T-shirt and a barbecue lunch. First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded.

Times for the races are:
n 7 a.m., registration for the marathon races, Umpqua Discovery Center in Reedsport.
n 8 a.m., Wind Kayak Marathon Race starts at The Discovery Center. Eighteen-foot boat limit. Any participant under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
n 8:20 a.m., Single Kayak Marathon Race starts at The Discovery Center. May be a peddle or paddle craft. Twenty-foot boat limit.
n 8:40 a.m., Tandem Kayak Marathon Race starts at The Discovery Center. Eighteen-foot boat limit.
n 9 a.m., Registration for short course races at East Boat Basin in Winchester Bay.
n 10 a.m., Single Kayak Paddle Class. Short course starts at East Boat Basin in Winchester Bay. Any participant under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
n 10:40 a.m., Single Kayak Peddle Class. Short course start at East Boat Basin in Winchester Bay.
n 11 a.m., Tandem Kayak Peddle Class. Short course starts at East Boat Basin in Winchester Bay. Any participant under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
