» Part of Highway 38 will close briefly on July 2

State Highway 38 will be closed at the Elkton bridge — milepost 36 — from 3 to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2.

Oregon Department of Transportation subcontractor Cascade Bridge will remove the truss from the old Elkton bridge during the closure.

Crews will complete work on the replacement Elkton bridge in the fall.

ODOT is coordinating with North Douglas County Fire and EMS to ensure continuous access to surrounding communities during the closures.

Motorists traveling between Reedsport and Interstate 5 during the temporary closure are advised to use an alternate route.

The Elkton bridge replacement is part of a project to replace five aging bridges on Highway 38 between Elkton and Drain. The bridges were built between 1929 and 1932. ODOT is replacing the bridges to ensure safe travel on this important route between the coast and Interstate 5.

More information about the Highway 38 bridge replacement is available online at http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION3/ElkCreek.shtml.
