Alford Q. Howeth

Oct.10, 1927 – June 13, 2008

A funeral service for Alford Q. Howeth, 80, of Reedsport, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at Dunes Memorial Chapel, 2300 Frontage Road, Reedsport. Burial will follow at Reedsport Masonic Cemetery. Viewing will be held between 4 and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at Dunes Memorial Chapel.

Alford was born on Oct. 10, 1927 in Blanchard, Okla. to Cecil B. and Rena (Mason) Howeth.  He died June 13, 2008, in Florence.

He married Willie M. James on Sept. 6, 1972, in Reno, Nev. They lived in Clinton, Ark., and California, before moving to Reedsport five years ago. He was an engineer for Ford Aerospace in Palo Alto, Calif. He enjoyed making jewelry, fishing and carpentry work. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  

 He is survived by his wife, Willie M. Howeth, of Reedsport; daughter, Alberta Furlong, of San Diego; son, Allen Howeth, of Coras Gold, Calif; daughter, Allene Johnson, of Georgia; stepdaughter, Betty Lewis, of Oklahoma; stepson, Larry Lewis, of Arkansas; his brother, Bernie Howeth, of Coos Bay; five grandchildren in San Diego; and four stepgrandchildren in Tulsa, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Rena Howeth.

 Arrangements are under the direction of Dunes Memorial Chapel, Reedsport, 271-2822.

Roland T. Perry

July 26, 1929 - June 11, 2008

There will be a simple gathering of family for Roland T. Perry, 78, at a later date.

Roland was born July 26, 1929, in New Mexico, to William H. and Julia Perry. He died June 11, 2008, in Eugene. He was the love of Patricia Perry’s life and they were to celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary on June 13.

He started his life on a farm in New Mexico. Roland was a business man and owned businesses in Texas and California.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing and his ranch on the Smith River.

He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Kris Williams of Bothell, Wash., and Wendi Aschenbrener of Newport; one grandchild; sister, Dorothy Jones of Dayton; and many friends.

Foster “Ken” Bidwell

1941 - 2008

At his request, no funeral will be held for Foster “Ken” Bidwell, 67, of Reedsport. He has donated his body to medical science and will be cremated at a later date.

Ken died May 29, 2008, of heart failure.

He served in the Oregon National Guard, U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He later moved to Reedsport, where he worked at Pizza Ray’s, for the school district on the custodial staff and for Coho Marina. He also had his own lawn maintenance business.

His family has expressed appreciation for his care at the Lower Umpqua Hospital, to his foster care family, hospice, caseworkers and to friends who visited him.

He is survived by a twin sister, Teena Brown of Utah; brother, Ron Bidwell and family of Prineville; sons, Foster Ken Bidwell Jr., of California and Darin V. Bidwell; and 12 cats.

The family suggests memorial contributions to a hospice or Project Blessing food bank at Reedsport United Presbyterian Church. To adopt one of Ken’s cats, please call Joann or Bob at 271-4726.

Grover Woods — 92, of Reedsport. A memorial will be held for Grover Woods at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, at the Lower Umpqua Senior Center. Family and friends welcome community members to gather in remembering Grover and his contribution to this community. Grover responded whenever called upon; as a volunteer as well as a local businessman as the owner of Reedsport Towing.

John C. Waggoner — 89, of Reedsport, died Friday, June 13, 2008, in Reedsport. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 21,  at the United Presbyterian Church, 2360 Longwood Drive, Reedsport. A private burial will be held at Reedsport Masonic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Dunes Memorial Chapel, 271-2822.

David William Bird — 71, of Scottsburg, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, in Scottsburg.  A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2008, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 3520 Frontage Road, Reedsport. A committal service will follow at 4 p.m. at his farm in Scottsburg.  Arrangements are under the direction of Dunes Memorial Chapel, 271-2822.
